Clear aligners, also sometimes called invisible braces, are a series of invisible trays that fit over your teeth to move them to their desired position. The aligners are made of clear plastic, so they are virtually invisible when you wear them.
Clear aligners are removable, so you can take them out to eat and brush your teeth. You will need to wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day, but you can remove them for a special event.
Clear aligners like Invisalign are subtler than traditional metal braces. They don’t stand out as much, making them ideal for adults who may want to undergo orthodontic treatment but don’t want to be teased. Other advantages include:
- They can be removed for eating, drinking, and brushing.
- They are more comfortable.
- They are more hygienic.
- They are easier to clean.
Clear aligners are great for patients who want to straighten their teeth but who aren’t interested in using metal braces. Clear Aligners can correct minor alignment issues, such as gapped teeth, overbite, and underbite.
Clear aligners are removable, so patients can take them out to eat, drink, brush, and floss. They can also be removed for important meetings, dates, or events.
Braces are often recommended for patients with more significant misalignment issues. Braces can address overcrowding, crossbite, and overbite.
Clear aligners are cheaper than braces and don’t require regular adjustments.
Clear aligners are an alternative for people who don’t want traditional metal braces and don’t mind paying a bit more for the treatment. Clear aligners are also only recommended in patients with minor misalignments (e.g., crowding, protruding teeth).
If you’ve been thinking about getting braces, but don’t want to deal with metal brackets and wires, clear aligners are a great choice. Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners are made of BPA-free plastic and are practically invisible.
Because you can remove your aligners, you can also maintain your normal oral hygiene routine. Simply brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligners back in. You should also continue to visit the dentist for regular cleanings and exams.
